My host family recently took me out to dinner in Techiman. This is all of us!!
I love seeing all the different things people carry on their heads. These two guys are carrying and selling a stack of fabrics.
Catholic Church in Binaba with the "bell" hanging in the tree out front.
-6: My neighbors harvesting the first millet. I had to retake pic #5 at few times until I finally got the girls to smile. Aquia (pic #6) just finished doing household washing and has laid it out on the grass for drying.
-8: In front of my house is an open field where kids come to play soccer most evenings as the sun is setting. Sometimes I go out to watch or throw the Frisbee with them. On this day, they were posing so I would take a picture of them.
I met this girl on my way to the market. She's biking home from church and eating roasted maize.
-12: I'm trying to help BWFA grow their shea butter processing business. A British man living in Tamale came to Binaba to give the women a training on producing better quality shea butter (for potential exporting). About 30 women came, so I was encouraged.
-18: I decided to post pictures to show how different everything looks from when I first came. Here are pics of my house last November and now. My dad recently sent a hammock (#15) with Eric and Suzanne - I enjoy it nearly every afternoon /early evening to read or grade papers.
Stirling backing her baby (Cabbage Patch doll sent from previous volunteers)
I recently picked up a new hobby - designing and burning calabashes, which are bowls typically used for drinking water or pito. This is my first calabash! I'm not real creative, but I've started out by drawing the traditional pictures on the walls of my house. I use a knife that I heat in hot coals to brand the design into the calabash. We think the animal in this picture is a donkey.
Women winnowing rice at the grinding mill.
-24: BWFA women selling at the market. |
