-4: In one of the villages close to Binaba (called Zongoiri), there is a sacred place where Kusaasi's (my tribe) go to worship. One of my friends and I went to check it out and met a old man (pic #2) who took us around and told us what little history he knew. The man in pic #3 and 4 was also there and kept asking to have his picture taken. :)
-6: I invited my neighbor kids over to color and read Dr. Suess books on Mother's Day. I gave them candy and told them to draw a picture of their mothers (the father has two wives).
I watched this storm pass by Binaba one night. I think it's a cool picture.
This is one of my closest friends, Rose, who sells bread and fried groundnuts (like peanuts) in the market.
The sun was very hot this day, so my friend used her umbrella to shade her baby.
-11: If you remember from last month, my counterpart asked me to name her newborn baby boy. Unfortunately, all of the family names I thought about were too difficult to pronouce, so I gave him one of my favorite Biblical names - Paul. He was a great leader and strong man. Paul will also get a Kusaasi name, which is being decided on by the elders of the family. He will go by his English name in the village, however.
After a night of heavy rain, I asked some boys to come with their cows to plow my farm. My plan to grow groundnuts (like peanuts), maize, and sweet potatoes. I also have a garden where I will grow tomatoes, red (hot) pepper, green pepper, cabbage, carrots, and cucumber.
-15: You'll also remember that Binaba had a strong wind storm last month that blew the roof off my summer hut. Well, I rounded up the troops and we put a new one up one Saturday afternoon. I provided pito (local beer), apiteshi (local gin), cigarettes, and asked Rose to cook some food. They claim the new roof is very strong and will never come off again ... they were also completely bushed by the time they left my house. Guess we'll see. Ha! :)
-18: BWFA women store onions, which are harvested mid-March, and store them until the price increases. At this time (around July), we sell and the women make a pretty nice profit. This our onion storage facility.
 My office at BWFA.
-21: This is my cat, Pi. I call her my "watch-cat" and my neighbors just laugh. She's small and scared of everything ... except geckos which she catches from time to time!! :)
