Mary delivered a baby girl on Good Friday, April 6th. She was walking to the health clinic when she went into labor on the side of the road. Therefore the baby's local name is the Kusaal word for "road". Mary and Johnson have asked me to give her an English name, which is the name she will be called officially. There will be a naming ceremony in a month or so, but I've decided to name her Leslie in honor of my grandfather who came to visit last November and made a great impression on the people here.

Believe it or not, this picture was taken the day Leslie was born. A few hours after delivery, Mary was making dinner for the family and cleaning the house. A women's work never takes a break.
