I accepted an invitation this week to serve in Ghana, Africa with the Peace Corps. I leave in 7 short week on September 20, 2005.
I will live in Techiman (located in the middle of the country) for 3 months before moving to my permanent site for the next 24 months. In Techiman, I will go through very intense language, culture, and job training. I will then move to my permanent site (TBD) early December and start my job 12/3.
My job title will be "Business Advisor" - I'm finding it difficult to summarize what all that entails (mainly because I don't really know exactly), but it's sort of like a consulting position. I'll do a lot of teaching/advising to the people in my city/village/community in hopes of them creating more economic growth. One big industry they are trying to grow right now is tourism, so that will be one area of focus for me. I could also be involved with agro/processing and other small industries such as basket weaving, vegetable/fruit farming, pottery, or beekeeping.
I'm nervous, anxious, overwhelmed with everything I need to do before leaving, but more importantly, extremely EXCITED about this adventure!
